The Head Coach of the junior national side, Shooting Stars who was sacked by minister of sports Paul Kamara last weekend has told Politico that "I am answerable to the SLFA, not the minister".
Alimamy Turay whose sacking was announced immediately after his team's 2 - 0 defeat against Ghana in Bo, said "Even now I have not received any sack letter from the ministry of sports. I have only heard about my sacking on various radio stations...we trained this morning in the main bowl of the stadium and nobody asked me to leave the pitch".
In an apparent reference to issues raised by the minister regarding team selection, Turay said his technical team was right to select players and not allow the minister to do so. He described suggestions by the minister that the match could have been fixed as "unfortunate", adding that "everybody who watch that match in Bo will saw the performance of the boys... we are unlucky to win the match the boys played well".
Prominent coach Abu Sankoh expressed dismay at the way in which local coaches are treated by the Shim of match - fixing? He said, "It's time for local coaches to be respected. We have done good things for this country both senior and junior levels and the public can attest to".
