Defending Champions of the non-division league at the Parade Ground in Central Freetown have lost to Tank FC who were eliminated in the group stage of the 2013/14 league season.
Malcolm Football Cub, who defeated four teams in the last season to emerge as champions, were beaten by 1 goal to 0 in the opening match of the 2015 league that has just commenced last week in Freetown.
Tank FC proved very determined given the aggressive game of play that left observers wondering whether Malcolm FC’s poor start meant anything for this year’s competition.
The league is organized by the Central One Football Association (COFA).
Malcom were very much impressive in the match but failed to take up better Chances that came their way. Tank FC later on capitalized on the sloppy defense by Malcolm Defenders and scored the only goal of the match in the Second half through Amadu Conteh.
Tank head coach, Abu Bakarr Bangura, expressed delight over the win.
‘’My boys played well in getting the all-needed goal which has put us in a better position in the group,’’ he said.
Malcom FC Head Coach Ishamel Mammah describe the loss as ‘’unfortunate’’, given the chances that came their way and the greater amount of ball possession they had.
‘’We failed to utilized those chances and we paid the price for that by losing the match,’’ he said. He however expressed optimism of winning their next match as they had learnt from their mistakes.
