East End Lions Football Club has stopped its players and officials from participating in the upcoming Leone Rock One Nation Tournament scheduled to commence on the 28th January, 2023.
According to a statement from the club, the was move due to the fact that organizers of the One nation tournament named several of its players and officials to represent the Western Region teams without any formal request or communication with them.
The club therefore, resolved that neither its players nor its officials will be involved in the said tournament during the ongoing 2022/23 Sierra Leone Premiere League season.
The club’s management noted that their main priority is to exclusively focus on the goals it has set for the team in the current league season.
A source within the organizers told Politico that, it is not their responsibility to inform premier clubs to release their players to participate in the one nation gala. He said it is the responsibility of the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) that is in charge of the region’s football to inform clubs about their participation.
The source went on to note that, the tournament was not only meant for premier league players, thus the essence they opened the tournament’s participation to 30 players.
