Following announcement by SLFA, the football family in Sierra Leone will tomorrow receive the most powerful person in world football in the person of Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA. The statement says Infantino will be accompanied by the recently elected President of CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a one day visit to Sierra Leone on Wednesday 5 May 2021.
According to SLFA, the two men are looking forward to meeting with the President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio and representatives of clubs and local football associations. The SLFA statement quoted the reaction of the FIFA head to the invitation by SLFA President Isha Johansen: “it would be a unique opportunity to share our vision of football and the ways to further develop our game in your country and promote its values”, it reads.
Premier league football in Sierra Leone has commenced but there is a deep- seated rift amongst football stakeholders in the country after some were barred from contesting the presidency and other SLFA executive positions in the elective Congress that is yet to hold due to the rancour. Others also still face charges for alleged actions that are inimical to the reputation of the game and for which no final submissions or outcomes have been made for years now. Many are hoping to see whether the visit by the boss of football world governing body will bring a lasting solution to the debacle that has plagued Sierra Leone football for the last seven years.
