The Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA) has defeated the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) Communication’s Department by 6 goals to 2 at SS Camp Community field, Regent Village.
The student friendship and solidarity match took place on Wednesday 15th September 2021.
UNIMAK were the first to score with just 5 minutes into the match. MACOSA’s talisman Joseph a final honours 2 student, lifted the home crowd, netting the equaliser shortly.
The home team also then went ahead after converting a spot kick about a couple of minutes after the equalising goal.
The visitors cut short the joy of the home side netting their second goal to level.
Issa Bangura a honours 1 student sent MACOSA supporters into wild celebration by drilling in an unstoppable shot from a set piece, to set the tone for the other subsequent 3 goals, with UNIMAK unable to reinvent their earlier fighting spirit.
The inter-varsity match left the UNIMAK team which much to ponder about on their long journey back to Makeni . Both Omar and Joseph scored a brace, their performances described as a scintillating by some football analysts who watched the encounter.
Sadly MACOSA won the match without their star goalkeeper Mohamed Karankay Conteh who was shot dead by suspected robbers at his Sumaila Town residence some two months ago.
Sieh Sesay, a final honours 2 student and coach for the MACOSA team said that the essence of the match was to create a good rapport between students of both universities. He said that the match was also in honour of their slain course mate.
President of MACOSA, Mohamed T. Massaquoi congratulated both teams and the Executive Body of MACOSA. He praised the Head of Department, Mass Communication Dr. Williette James for her support. He also commended the female students for supporting the MACOSA team.
