High Flying Bo Rangers brought down by Wusum Stars

By Alpha Abu

Celebrations went into late Sunday evening in Makeni after host team Wusum Stars beat highly fancied Bo Rangers 1-0 in the Sierra Leone football Premier  league.

Wusum scored midway in the first half from a goalkeeping blunder. The Bo Rangers goalie had all the time to clear a back pass but held on to the ball until he was dispossessed and the ball easily slotted home. It was a howler that shocked the highly confident travelling fans.

Musa Tombo of Bo Rangers was booked for simulation after the towering figure was brought down in the box, causing mild protest by the visitors.

In the second half Wusum Stars were involved in a lot of game management as one player or the other went down every five minutes in theatrical fashion. The referee had cause to book a member of the coaching staff of Wusum Stars.

And when the final whistle from the referee went there was large scale pitch invasion as Wusum Stars fans poured onto the pitch to celebrate. Hundreds of them easily scaled the perimeter fence.

An official of the SLFA said the safety of all players and officials was compromised.

In Freetown also on Sunday, FC Johansen were forced to a draw by Freetown City FC at the Siaka Stevens Stadium. Johansen led 1-0 at halftime but Freetown City equalised in the second half of play for the match to end one apiece.
