The former Captain of the national football team Mohamed Kallon has been awarded as the all time African highest goal scorer in Italian football. Kallon said he felt honoured among fellow players like El-Haji Diouf, KaliluFadigaandAboubacarrTitiCamara, at a ceremony organized by TV 5 and other renowned French Sports journalists in Africa.
Kallon said he was "highly respected amongst my colleague players...they gave me first class treatment". He said "this is a clear indication of how much I am respected outside my country...it is incomparable with the respect I am shown in Sierra Leone.
He said Sierra Leoneans must respect their heroes because "that will help develop the minds of our young players who are yearning to play for this country".
The former Inter Milan player described his recent deal with the mobile phone company Airtel as a dream come true. He said under this project, he will develop 20 players in his academy who will graduate to a different Academy.
