Kallon out, Keister in: Sierra Leone national football team reshuffles

The Sierra Leone Football Association has sacked the Assistant Coach 1 of the national team, Musa Kallon. His sacking comes following an investigation in to his conduct. In his place, former Leone Stars coach John Keister has been appointed.

Kallon was suspended last week for a physical altercation with the national team’s Welfare Officer, Junior Lawson. Following the conclusion of the FA’s investigation, Lawson has been handed a two-match ban.

Amidu Karim, the current coach of Premier League team FC Kallon was acting in Kallon’s absence. Keister’s appointment will now see Amidu Karim relegated to Assistant coach 2.

Following his suspension, Kallon has been vocal in recent weeks against the FA for keeping the head coach, Sellas Tetteh despite reports that he had failed medical. It is not clear whether this decision is linked to his criticism directed at the FA.

According to a press statement by the FA on Thursday, Keister was recommended by Mr Tetteh.

Keister, Kallon and Tetteh all applied for the position of head coach for Leone Stars.

The appointment of Keister will hopefully bring the much-needed calm in what seems like a mini-crisis surrounding the national team.

Leone Stars are set to play the Crocodiles of Lesotho next week Wednesday in their opening fixture of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
