Sierra Leone International, Kei Kamara has backed Leone Stars captain Umaru Bangura (Zaingalay) following his last gasp penalty miss against Lone Stars of Liberia on Sunday.
Zaingalay 31, who put in a solid performance over the two legs against Liberia missed the penalty on Sunday that could have seen Sierra Leone drawn in the next phase of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Kamara wrote on his Facebook wall and Twitter consoling Zaingalay and showing his solidarity.
“You are my captain, Umaru Bangura and I am there with you through any weather. I have witnessed it multiple times when you made us happy and dance. You are the best; the country will wake up today and realize you have made us all cheer many times before.”
Zaingalay who plays for FC Zurich in Switzerland was seen distraught after the game. He has come under serious criticism by fans for the way he took the penalty. He was notably absent on Sunday in the post-match press conference.
Kamara 35, was seen going round the stadium and waving to the fans after the game. Before this round of qualifiers, Kamara said this could be his last chance to take the country to an international tournament considering his age. It is not clear whether he will play again for Leone Stars in the coming months.
With Leones Stars out of the World Cup qualifier, the focus will now turn to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which will start in November 2019.
