East End Lions and FC Kallon have both stuttered in their opening matches of the season. They both had big fixtures and they both couldn’t take three points.
Lions played on Saturday against Ports Authority. Coach John Keister will now tick Ports as one of his strongest opponents that he has come up against. Last season they shared the spoils twice and this season a 79th minute goal by Gibril Coulibally was enough to steal all three points for Ports.
This is the second successive loss for Lions in all competitions. They lost to FC Kallon in the Challenge Cup and they have lost the opener of the Premier League. The depth of quality in this squad however shouldn’t let any Lions fan to be worried just yet.
Lions next fixture is against long time rivals, Mighty Blackpool. If they lose then there will be rumors of crisis emanating from the Lions camp.
FC Kallon gave away an early goal to Old Edwardians to put themselves in the backfoot. Buoyant and confident, they fought their way back and scored early in the second half to level. But this game was full of fireworks and controversies.
It finished 1-1 on Sunday night.
FC Kallon who finished second last season know these are the three points that they should be winning. It’s match day one so no one will be worried. They have time for very long rest; their next game is against East End Tigers on the 21st of December.
What the opening weekend has taught these two teams is that they are going to be pushed to the very edge from all fronts.
