Mathew Kanu in Makeni
Chairman of Bombali district council has told a meeting in Kamakwe that by October this year they will commence the construction in Makeni of a paramedical school to train professional nurses and offer other health courses at degree level.
John Shangai Koroma said all councils had a moral responsibility to enhance better primary and junior secondary school education, health facilities, ensure food security and promote transparency and accountability.
He promised that council would be working towards raising 100% of its own funds and to make do with the 40% they were receiving from the central government.
“I have signed a performance contract to make available all these service deliveries possible. But I am also officially launching the revenue mobilization in Kamakwe to realise that objective,” he said.
Chairman of the education committee, councillor Dobson Kanu said they inherited an unsound council as the central government’s performance contract indicated but that they had been working hard to look better when the rating was done next.
Paramount Chief of Gbanti Kamranka, Kandeh Paria Kawaleh pledged his commitment towards revenue generation in his chiefdom.
“I will do everything possible to ensure that my people comply with the council in terms of payment of local taxes,” he assured.
