By Aminata Phidelia Allie

Head of training and recruitment in the Peace Keeping Department of the Sierra Leone Police says a team of 40 policemen on Wednesday landed in Khartoum, northern Sudan on peace mission.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hannah Sesay, told a presser in Freetown that the contingent was led by the head of the police internal disciplinary department, CDIID, Chief Superintendent William Fayia Sellu.

She said the team would undergo a 3-day induction training in Khartoum before proceeding to the headquarters of the UN mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in El-fasher.

“They will also spend a week [Khartoum] in induction training on their various duties and responsibilities,” she stated, adding that the officers would then be deployed in the three Darfur regions.

She noted that most of the important sectors in UNAMID were currently being manned by the Sierra Leone police, adding: “We are doing extremely well in terms of performance in the outside world”. She described their performance so far as “remarkable”.

The head of training and recruitment also said that the one-year contract could be extended to two years based on their ground performance and situations on the ground.
