The National Electoral Commission say they are set for the parliamentary bye-election in Constituency 01 in Kailahun district and the local council bye-election in Ward 229 in Tonkolili.
Chief of external relations, Albert Massaquoi, says 28 September 2013 has been set aside for both elections.
He says the vacancies occurred as a result of the death on 26 April 2013 of Alice Mamie Tewoh Foyah, MP, and Councilor Joseph Kawah Kerah on 29 May this year.
“And in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 and the Public Elections Act of 2012, NEC will conduct the elections as scheduled,” he says.
Massaquoi says what the commission is now faced with is the procurement of voter materials.
“Letters have been sent to secretaries general of all political parties for submission of their candidates as the dead line is 27 August, 2013 and nomination is open for independent candidates as long as you are a Sierra Leonean,” he says.
