The new United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone David Reimer arrived in Freetown on Monday 8th March 2021, replacing Ambassador Maria Brewer who served here for three years.

The ambassador according to report from the Embassy’s communications unit was received by Victor Abdulai Sheriff, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The new US head of Mission to Sierra Leone said he was delighted to be here and looked forward to working with the people and government of this country. “Our nations share a deep and abiding friendship developed over decades.  I look forward to working with the government and people of Sierra Leone to strengthen our partnership based on shared interests and respect,” he said.

Nominated on the 10th of June last year, Reimer is among the many appointments made by President Donald Trump to strengthen his administration as he prepared for re-election last November.

Ambassador Reimer previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Mauritius and the Republic of Seychelles.  Prior to that, he held senior leadership positions as the Director of the Office of West African Affairs in the Bureau of African Affairs at the Department of State and was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

His predecessor Maria Brewer came to Sierra Leone in 2017 months to the 2018 general elections and witnessed the transition of power from Earnest Bai. Koroma to President Julius Maada Bio in April 2018.
