One of Sierra Leone’s most celebrated football clubs Mighty Blackpool has dissolved its Steering Committee that had been in place since 10th March 2020 and set up a Working Committee. At the helm of the new arrangement is popular football administrator Rodney Michael. However since the list bearing the names of persons of members of the committee appeared, Michael has remained coy on the matter.
Apparently undecided over the appointment, Michael explained to Politico that he would make his position known after he had met with Elders of the club.
“I am gratified that Blackpool has considered me worthy of this appointment. At the moment I am just evaluating and assessing the situation, trying to understand the challenges and waiting to meet the elders. Hopefully after we meet, we’ll be able to forge ahead and direct the club in the right way to restore it to its past glory and at the pinnacle of Sierra Leone football”, he stated.
Blackpool had great moments in the 1970s, 80s and 90s and competed well in the continental club champions’ competition, reaching the quarter-finals at one stage. The club has however fallen on hard times for some time now, with lack of financial support and low confidence amongst supporters. During the club’s glorious days, there was no shortage of prominent financiers, many of whom had either passed away or taken a back seat. The club’s performance in the league these days has also been very uninspiring.
