Works Minister, Alimamy Petito Koroma on Monday failed to appear before parliament after being formally summoned to the House in a letter dated Wednesday 18 September 2013 by the chairman of the Oversight Committee on Works, Kombor Kamara, MP. According to the letter summoning the minister, the Committee intends to ask questions around issues of delays in the completion of road works in district head quarter towns and the problem of potholes plaguing the capital city, Freetown. The Committee also wanted to raise questions on the ministry’s position on the contract for the construction of the roads in Koidu in Kono district currently being undertaken by Well Group Construction who many have blamed for its delay and disjointed approach. The committee chairman said the Works minister should shed more light on a statement he apparently made on radio that the contract with Well Group had been terminated. Committee members said the minister did not give any reason for not showing up. Politico made efforts to reach the minister but to no avail. There has been disquiet recently over the decaying nature of especially the roads in Freetown and the abandoned and unexplained incomplete nature of many of the roads in district headquarters towns.
