The national Under-20 national team shooting has eliminated petit Syli National in the preliminary rounds of the African Youth Championship. Shooting stars go through on a 2-0 aggregate score.
Charlie Wright, the team's assistant coach told Politico on their return to Freetown that he was "very happy for such a big win for the team and for the country as a whole", noting that this win will be a turning point in Sierra Leone football because "it's been a long time since any national side won both legs in such a competition".
Wright said his players demonstrated "exactly what we told them do ... I am happy for them and the technical team as well". He said "we are looking forward to face Ghana which is a strong tie but we are hoping to do well".
Ibrahim Conteh Aka Mark Fish who scored the only goal in Conakry expressed delight at scoring his first goal for his country in the U-20, noting that he will repeat the feat in the national team if given the opportunity.
