Thirty-three (33) alleged protesters arrested in connection to the 2023 September 11 protests have appeared at a Magistrate Court in Freetown.
The accused persons Abubakarr Kargbo, Ibrahim Amidu Jalloh, Mohamed Kamara, and Sulaiman Bangura were arraigned at the Ross Road Court No.3 before Magistrate Hadiru Daboh on Thursday 14th September 2023.
The others are Fatmata Sesay, Alisha Kanu, Fatmata Conteh, Ibrahim Sorie Sesay, Lukman Yayah, and David Johnson among others.
Yesterday being the commencement of the preliminary investigation (PI), the five counts of conspiracy, unlawful procession, incitement, and riotous conduct were read out before the accused in the dock.
All the accused however pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
The court learnt that all the accused on the same date at the East end of Freetown did invite members of the public to commit the breach of the peace in the country.
The accused were also said to have behaved in a riotous and disorderly manner.
Lawyer M. Baraytay was the lead defence for all the accused, while Deputy Superintendent of Police, Eric A. Deen led the prosecution team.
The PI resumes on 21st September this year.
