The Press Secretary, Solomon Jamiru has assured the public that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and other big organizations like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have reaffirmed their commitments to enhancing the human capital development in Sierra Leone.
Jamiru was updating the public back home on the 19TH September, 2023 on the various engagements and activities of the Government of Sierra Leone at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Summit (UNGA) in New York.
He noted that President Julius Maada Bio has met the MCC Chief Executive Officer; Alice Albright who he said has committed to helping President Julius Maada Bio deliver on his manifesto. He assured the public that President Bio is going to have a meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres to talk about the space he has created for children through the government’s flagship Free Quality Education programme.
‘’These are going to happen in this trip,’’ he said.
The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah in his update stated that the delegates to the United Nations Assembly continue to instill a positive image about the country. He called on Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad to be patriotic in their activities, noting that the narrative about the country in the outside world has not been favourable.
“We are doing all in our efforts to change the story about the country from a bad light to a positive light. Like many other African countries, Sierra Leone has been pictured outside as a blood diamond country. Now, we are challenging that narrative by telling the outside world that all those bad stories about Sierra Leone are not true. We are trying to put Sierra Leone in its true narration line,’’ he said.
Minister Bah also said that President Bio will be having over 50 bilateral meetings with Heads of State and many other personalities on his endeavour to education, championing gender issues, and most importantly, his legacy on the peaceful democratic transition of government.
On his part, the Presidential Spokesman, Alpha Khan reiterated the commitment of IMF and MCC to human capital and encouraged the public to engage in healthy conversations and stay off bad information that can tarnish the reputable image of the country.
