The international Olympic Committee IOC through its Solidarity Fund has provided scholarships for two Sierra Leonean athletes Catharine Hudor and Afsatu Koroma currently based in the USA.
The president of Sierra Leone Athletics Association Abdul Karim Sesay said the scholarship will cover training and personal expenses to help the athletes take part in Olympic competitions.
Sesay said, "over the years we have been facing such financials problems with our oversees based athletes wanting to represent us in some competitions so we prepared a proposal to the IOC with the support of NOC and we are hoping to get the same for our local athletes in the country."
The SLAA boss said his organisation will use this opportunity to "upgrade athletes and bring them to the best level so they can take part in international competitions on behalf of Sierra Leone."
