Sierra Leone continues to progress on MCC Scorecard

By Alpha Abu

Sierra Leone continues to gain encouraging evaluation from the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) following release of the institution’s latest scorecard on the country. The country for the first time passed the natural resource protection indicator, achieving “58th   percentile of lower income countries”.

This takes into consideration efforts by the government to protect the flora and fauna in forest reserves, in conducting for the first time, the country’s database review

A statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications noted that: “This achievement is part of Government’s effort to develop baseline data and set targets towards its commitment to tackle climate change and environmental degradation”.

The country continues to make steady progress in the fight against graft for which it moved two places upward from 81 to 83. The Ministry took into account the launching of the accountability platform led by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh which brought together ACC, the Ministry of Finance, Procurement Authority, Parliament and Audit Service to enhance accountability in the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies.  Sierra Leone is expressing its third year of consecutive success since the country became part of the compact development as approved by MCC. It was however admitted to by the government’s information arm on the need for improvement in gender performance in the economy.  Politico will give more insight into the report.
