Family sources reported the death and burial of a man known simply as Sullay Hijazi or Jarjar who was one of the most recognizable names in the history of Sierra Leone Football, especially during the 1980 and 90s.
He served as Chairman of Diamond Stars for more than a decade, financing all their needs and developing them to become one of the best teams in the country. Hijazi would later serve as Vice President of the Sierra Leone Football Association in the 90s. According to the Chairman of Mighty Blackpool Football Club Rodney Michael who knew the late man well, his “immense contribution to Sierra Leone Football and particularly Kono district compares with that of any other individual in our football history. Sullay is gone but will never be forgotten”. Michael describes Sullay Hijazi as “a mentor and an inspiration to so many of us”.
