The Sierra Leone men’s National Team, Leone Stars is set to host the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports complex in Monrovia, Liberia in the upcoming Total Energies African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 qualifying match.
The match is scheduled for the 18th June, 2023.
This was confirmed by a news brief from the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on the 12th May, 2023 after receiving the approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the said Stadium to be the host venue
The match-day 5 fixture is a crucial tie for both nations.
Sierra Leone lost the first leg in Abuja and sits in 3rd position in Group A with five points behind Nigeria and Guinea Bissau, having recorded two draws and a win with 4 matches played.
Leone Stars’ attempt to have the match played at the new Southern Arena was dismissed by CAF because the hotels in Bo where the stadium is located lack certain standards.
