Sierra Leone up in latest FIFA rankings

By Lamin Idriss Conteh (Cazorla)

Sierra Leone’s national team Leone Stars are now up 116th position from the previous 120th  standing , according to the  November 26th FIFA rankings.

John Keister's men moved up to four places in the ranking released by the world football governing body.

This came as a result of the impressive performance Leone Stars put up against their West African counterparts, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, in their Group L, Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The two matches between Leone Stars and Nigeria last month ended in a draw, the first leg in Nigeria never short of high drama with the visitors coming from a three goal deficit to draw 4-4.  Sierra Leone could have been rewarded for this against their more illustrious opponents.

Senegal are still the top-ranked team on the African continent  and at  21 in the world, followed by Tunisia (26), Algeria (30), Nigeria (31), and Morocco (39).

Belgium, France, Brazil, England, Portugal and Spain maintained their positions respectively. Argentina, who were 7th in the last FIFA ranking in October, are down to 8th position.  Crotia and Columbia, who were 9th and 10th in the last rankings, have fallen to 11th and 15th respectively.

The next FIFA/ Coca-Cola world rankings will be published on 10th December 2020.
