The government of Sierra Leone has in a bid to promote universal values and improve education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Development and Economic Planning Dr. Francis Kai Kai on the 11th of February 2023 at an organized ceremony in Brussels.
The MOU according to the parties is geared towards promoting education, research, training and institution building in every facet of public life.
According to the agreement, in the area of education the EPLO shall assist the nation in developing courses for the promotion of excellence through the European Law and Governance School (ELGS) and the international University School of the EPLO.
With this, the EPLO is expected to help Sierra Leone in creating a new generation of high level educated scholars with in-depth knowledge in areas of Law and Governance. EPLO is also expected to assist the country in the acquisition of the tools that are needed for the promotion of dialogue and closer relations with the world, including the European Union.
During the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of EPLO Professor Spyridon Flogaitis assured that they are committed to supporting Sierra Leone in its bid for a permanent seat in the UN.
He expressed delight for choosing his institution and commended President Bio for focusing on developing the educational sector.
Whilst responding to Flogaitis, Minister Kai Kai stated that education is President Bio’s flagship agenda, adding that ensuring that every child is educated is his vision.
“We are elated that this partnership will give meaning to our agenda while putting a premium on education, research, and training for our people” said Kai Kai.
He stated that with the goodwill and mutual commitment, Sierra Leone will continue to be dedicated to the implementation of the MOU in order for Sierra Leoneans to benefit.
Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Belgium Ambassador Samuel Tamba Musa said that Sierra Leone is interested in the proposed ideas of education, emphasizing that human capital development is President Bio’s top priority.
He mentioned that the EPLO agreement will help the Foreign Service Academy in enhancing teaching, learning and research.
Some parts of the agreement states that both parties are committed to engaging in an open, constructive and fruitful cooperation in all facets, with emphasis on education and positive reforms to strengthen the country’s Rule of Law.
