Standstill at Parade Grounds

By Kemoh Sesay

Construction work at the parade grounds in central Freetown has ground to a halt as major sponsors have still not provided money for the work on the perimeter fence and pavilion to continue.

COFA Secretary General Philip Cline-Cole said work commenced in September 2014 and they were  hoping to finish in good time but the Ebola Virus Disease struck and caused the work to stall.

He pointed out that they initially they estimated 50 million Leones for the entire project and "we have received support from individuals and organizations but we are still yearning for more so that the construction work will be completed in time for the start of the football season."

Cline-Cole said they have put a mechanism in place to monitor the construction on a daily basis to avoid  lapses. Asked about the maintenance of the field on completion, he said that they will "implement a proper monitoring system to see that good care is taken of the facilities and anybody caught destroying these facilities will be dealt with according to law."
