The Republican National Independent Party (ReNIP) has reelected Dr. Beresford Victor Williams as the party’s Chairman and flagbearer ahead of the 24 June 2023 elections.
His election came at the end of the party’s National Delegates Conference in Bo Southern, Sierra Leone. The three days conference which started on Friday 17th February brought together delegates and members of the party across the country.
The party also elected its Districts, Regional, and National executives.
In his statement, Dr. Williams expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him to serve as the party’s leader.
He said they’re a party that is ready to run the country, and that the convention is a clear indication that they are well prepared to lead the country.
He noted that with the growing economic situation in the country should they take over governance, they will introduce "Price control ".
In a bid to ensure price control, he said they will bring free port, adding that those who will bring foodstuff will not pay tax.
He also promised the Party’s urge to address security and salary issues in the country.
Speaking to Politico, the ReNIP’s regional chairman south, Hassan Kamara said they are satisfied with the outcome of the convention.
“The PR System, it was ReNIP that started the discussion until the government later came in to ensure it happened. We welcome the PR System", Hassan said.
He said the Political Parties Regulatory Commission (PPRC) is satisfied with the outcome of their Convention, adding that they believe in peace and not violence. He added that the party will soon announce the running mate for Dr. Taylor.
PPRC Director Southern Region Joseph Elogima Mbawah described the convention as peaceful, saying that ReNIP exhibited good governance which is what the commission expects of political parties.
“If one wants to govern a country, internal democracy must start within the political parties", Mbawah said. He added that as a commission they want sanity to be among political parties in the country.
He said PPRC is not only there to register political parties but to regulate, monitor and ensure internal democracy is being practiced.
The June 24 2023 polls will be the second to be contested by ReNIP with a presidential aspirant.
