The Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVBA) begins its annual inter-regional indoor and beach volleyball championship in Koidu city on the 20th of February.
According to the association's Secretary General Ahmed Khanou the event is part of their program of activities and that being the first program for this year "we are expecting high level of participation from all the regions in the country". He said "an international referees training course will precede the competition to improve the capacity of our local volleyball referees".
Khanou described 2013 as the "most successful" year for the SLVBA taking into consideration the competitions they participated in, including the World Cup in Portugal, Poland and Croatia and the World Championship qualifiers in Dakar in April 2013 and hosting the international Beach Volleyball qualifiers in the same month. He noted that "despite the many challenges, we were able to meet some of our goals”.
According to the association, the four-day event will showcase volleyball talents across the country as they compete for a prestigious trophy.
