Officers of Waterloo Police Division on Thursday 30th November 2023 handed over 37 inmates to Prison authorities. The inmates were rearrested after the security breach in two Correctional Centres in Freetown.
According to the Media Officer and Spokesperson of the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent Alieu Jalloh, 12 inmates from the 26th November Pademba Road prison security breach were re-arrested in Waterloo amongst which are those standing trial for Murder and other felonious criminal offenses.
Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Waterloo Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ibrahim Mohamed Sama had led a team of Police officers in raids in Waterloo and surrounding villages on the 27th of November, 2023 which resulted in the arrest of 25 inmates who escaped from the main correctional Centre at Pademba Road in Freetown during the security breach.
He stated that all the 25 inmates that were detained at the Waterloo Police Station were men and they all cooperated well with the Police.
in another raid, another 3 escaped inmates according to the Waterloo Police Division’s media officer were re-arrested at their hideouts and taken into Police custody awaiting their return to the male correctional centre, Pademba Road in Freetown.
ASP Jalloh said that the entire Waterloo Police Division is calm and several checkpoints have been mounted and manned by joint security personnel that include both the military and Police.
unknown gunmen in the early hours of Sunday 26th November stormed the Wilberforce Barracks’ Armory and proceeded to the male and female correctional centres where they freed the inmates.
