The scarcity of stones at Metchem has forced some stone miners to painfully trek to risky locations in search of boulders to break.

Metchem Quarry is located around the Seventh Battalion Barracks in Goderich in the west end of Freetown. It was formally run by a stone mining company called Metchem. After the company’s collapse people started coming there to mine stones for their survival.

In Sierra Leone ignorance about epilepsy is fuelling stigma and discrimination against sufferers of the medical condition caused by brain disorder, according to campaigners and doctors.

Epilepsy is widely associated with witchcraft and many sufferers endure extortion and torture in the hands of traditional healers who take advantage of a severe knowledge gap that drive even conventional health facilities to turn away patients.

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which often manifests itself in the form of seizures.

It is my opinion that since the issue of education has profound political implications our policy solutions to this dilemma and its related challenges will certainly depend on the type of development our political leaders seek to promote.
