Highlighting strides to improve the mining sector, President Julius Maada Bio has committed to boost women’s participation in what is considered as a male dominated sector.
Bio made this commitment on the 6th August 2024 during the State Opening of the second session of the Sixth parliament.

The Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) through the National Public Health Agency (NPHA) and in collaboration with the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the African Volunteer for Health Corps SURGE training with 72 participants.
The training which commenced on the 24th July, 2024 aims at strengthening the participants’ capacity for crisis preparedness and response in Sierra Leone and the African continent.

The Freetown City Council (FCC), in a joint operation with the Sierra Leone Police, on Friday 9th August, 2024 embarked on an extensive demolishing of makeshift shelters at the Kroobay Community in Central Freetown, rendering many families homeless.
Affected residents who spoke to Politico explained their ordeal. One of them, Lamin Conteh who is married and a father of two, acknowledged that FCC had earlier given them short notice prior to the day of demolition of their corrugated iron sheets “pan bodi” shelter.
