Social mobilisation to defeat Ebola in Sierra Leone

Information minister, Alpha Khanu says Ebola would only continue to be a problem if communities are not involved in the fight, noting that Ebola prevention is 10% medication and 90% social mobilisation.

“We have lost about 420 compatriots while others are still hospitalised since the outbreak of Ebola in the country,” he told an emergency press briefing at the conference hall of the ministry of information.

Concerns over Ebola-affected children

A local non-governmental organisation in Sierra Leone has expressed concern over the rising numbers of children in quarantined homes, saying “very little attention is being given to them”.

An ambulance belonging to the SOCFIN agricultural company has been intercepted at an Ebola check point at Bendu Junction in the Malen chiefdom in Pujehun transporting a dead body from Bo district.

This was confirmed by the district security coordinator, the Office of National Security, district police officer, the military, civil society, the district council chairman and other stakeholders in Pujehun.
