Head of peace keeping operations in the Sierra Leone Police has revealed that the country has the highest number of officers on peace keeping missions than any other country in Africa.

Assistant Inspector General Kalia Sesay told a press conference at the police headquarters in Freetown that that was “a manifestation of how fast the country has grown since its civil war ended in 2002”.

The Mayor of Blackburn in the UK, Mullah Salim, has paid a courtesy call on his counterpart, Franklyn Bode Gibson, Mayor of the municipality of Freetown, to explore business and charity opportunities.

In a meeting at the host mayor’s parlour in Freetown, the visiting Brit said that he was very happy to be in a country blessed with natural resources and with all what it needed to help its people live a better life.

African Union Commission has urged the government of Sierra Leone to domesticate one of Africa’s latest documents, the African Charter on Democracy Elections and Governance, ACDEG.

It said it adoption was inspired by “the significance of good governance, popular participation, the rule of law and human rights”.

All 10 political parties in Sierra Leone have pledged their unwavering support for the on-going review of the country’s 1991 constitution which is presently underway. Some people of Gbangbatoke village in the southern Moyamba district have called on the anti-corruption commission to come after their Paramount Chief, John Jibao Russel-Nyama II, for “petty theft of chiefdom property and abuse of office”.

Both Michael Albert Margai and Mustapha Fofanah made these allegations in public and at a well-attended Town Barrie meeting held by Edward Stile Jengo, the parliamentarian representing that part of the country.

A document from the UN World Health Organisation says the Ebola outbreak has killed 57 people across the country in less than one month.

The Pujehun District Football Association (PDFA) has pulled out of this year's Airtel Rising Stars competition scheduled for 10 July, 2014 in the eastern town of Kenema.

The Secretary General of the association, Mohamed Koroma disclosed to Politico that they were withdrawing because of the presence of Ebola in the east of the country. "The health of our players is the most paramount concern to us" he said.

Koroma said they had already informed the organisers of their decision.
