Forgery detected in teacher recruitment

Deputy director education south, John Swaray, has told a meeting of head teachers, principals and education stakeholders in Bo that a lot of academic documents forwarded to the ministry of education for recruitment are forged.

He said the corrupt practice was done by some teachers to convince the minister that they were qualified for recruitment. He said those documentswere rejected by the minister and there were plans to investigate possible culpability.

No room for corruption at KCC...Kenema CA assures

The newly transferred Chief Administrator to the Kenema City Council has assured the public that his administration will “ensure that there is no room for corruption and dictatorial rule”.

Daniel Saa Momoh said he was the “Moses”who had the determination to rescue the council from most of the misconceptions making the rounds about the council.

He said his administration would ensure total transparency in every activity, adding that the public always deserved to know about the running of the council.

Journalists, CSOs trained on Public Order Act

For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone, the journalists association (SLAJ), has trained journalists and members of civil society groups on the provisions of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965.

With funds from the American Embassy in Freetown, the two-day training focused mainly on educating media practitioners and CSOs about the Public Order Act, especially sections that criminalized seditious libel and defamation.

Komla Dumor laid to rest Saturday

Ace Ghanaian broadcaster and BBC senior broadcast journalist, Komla Afeke Dumor who died suddenly in January will be laid to rest on Saturday in Accra, the family has announced.

Several BBC staff from London and the corporation's reporter in Freetown and Politico editor, Umaru Fofana will be in attendance.

Kono, Pujehun top teen pregnancy

The wife of the Vice President says Pujehun and Kono Districts have "the highest percentage of teenage pregnancy and child marriage" in Sierra Leone.

Khadijah Sam-Sumana told a conference on "gender equality and the reduction of teenage pregnancy" in Pujehun that she was committed to "combating the burning issues undermining women's development in the district".

Lawyers in the eastern city of Kenema have slammed the man in charge of police operations in the region for "raiding schools and classrooms at random, searching the pupils' bags and checking for knives".
