AML records 200% increase in sales

Sierra Leone's main iron ore miner, African Minerals (AML) recorded a near 200% increase in its sale for 2013. According to a brief from the company, it sold 12.1 million metric tonnes (Mt) up from 4.1 Mt in 2012.

Youth demo against Sierra Rutile

Hundreds of youth, mostly commercial motorbike riders, joined security personnel of the SSGI security firm in Moriba Town, Bonthe district on Saturday to protest against the Sierra Rutile company and top officials of SSGI over the mysterious death of a security guard, Sowahibu Kallon aka Lahai.

He was a native of Kabati village in Jong chiefdom.

Indian investors explore Mile 91

Member of Parliament for Constituency 62 in Mile 91 has led some Indian investors on a fact-finding mission to Massengbeh village in the Tonkolili district, where he says they hope to invest in large scale agriculture.

The MP, Aaron Aruna Koroma, welcomed the company, Rain Maker Sierra Leone Limited, and appreciated their coming to invest in that part of the country while assuring them that his people would protect the investment.

Youth threaten to burn NPA transformer

Dozens of youth in Portee, eastern Freetown, have threatened to burn down the National Power Authority (NPA) transformer, for what they claim is a biased supply of electricity within the vicinity.

One of them, Isatu Kamara, told Politico that the Wharf Road, Zara Lane and other streets had been getting regular supply of electricity for weeks now, whereas William Street and the other parts of the same community up to Brima Lane continued to "suffer from blackout".

Pujehun Youth for Development promote education

Pujehun Youth for Development (KNSL/PYD) has awarded 33 scholarships to both primary and secondary school pupils in the district. Speaking to Politico the international liaison officer  of KNSL/PYD, Edward Mando said the provision of the scholarships was to prepare pupils of Pujehun district to "become useful citizens".

CTN is back

The news and current affairs production outfit, “Cotton Tree News” (CTN) is back. It has re-launched its programmes which go out from Radio Mount Aureol, a teaching radio stations at Fourah Bay College in Freetown, on 107.3 FM and on community radio stations throughout the country.

Germany to work with parliament

German Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Christian Rumplcker, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the new speaker, Sheku Bashiru Badamasi Dumbuya, and expressed his country's desire to work with the Sierra Leone parliament.

He said his government wanted to work closely with the office of the Speaker to create and sustain economic and other bilateral relationships with the government and people of Sierra Leone.
