EU intensifies the Ebola fight

The European Union is stepping up its efforts to contain the spread of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and has increased its funding for immediate health operations, experts and risk assessments to €1.1 million, and is contributing with medical equipment to help accelerate diagnosis, according to a release from the EU Delegation in Freetown.

A High Court in Sierra Leone today handed down a mandatory jail term for five people convicted for corruption. Six years for two, and three years for three others. They include a married couple.

Sample tests show "No Ebola" in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone's chief medical officer says tests carried on all suspected Ebola samples have proved negative. An email containing details of the lap test results seen by Politico shows they were all negative.

Fifteen samples were collected from Boidu in the eastern Kono District which borders southeastern Guinea where there have been several deaths from the haemorrhagic fever.
