Some ammunition, among them bullets and bombs, was discovered inside the compound of Services primary school at the Wilberforce Barracks in Freetown, leaving school authorities, parents and pupils panicked.

A senior teacher, Kelie Mansaray, told Politicothat “the ammunition was discovered when we contracted someone to rehabilitate the old toilet in the school compound that had not been used since the war”.

The development agency of United Nations, UNDP, has said in Freetown that less than one percent of the country’s rural population has access to electricity and therefore depends on wood fuel for cooking.

Minister of education, Dr. Minkailu Bah, has threatened to chase out and close down all private schools he considers to be “mushroom schools” in the country.

He made the resolution at a meeting organized by the Conference of Principals in Sierra Leone at the Government Rokel Secondary School in Freetown.

Dr. Bah claimed that “most of these so called private schools do not have proper documentation”, adding that that was against the laws of Sierra Leone.

One hundred and eleven candidates are set to take part in the chieftaincy elections for 19 chiefdoms across the country slated to take place from 2 to 20 December, 2013.

Chief Electoral Commissioner,Christiana Thorpe,told a press conference at their offices on Tower Hill in Freetown that the declaration of rights of the aspirants for paramount chieftaincy had been completed by the ministry of local government and rural development.

Deputy minister of information and communications has called on Sierra Leoneans to take media business very seriously if they must catch up with international standards.

Theo-Nicol was addressing the validation process of policies regarding foreign and multi-national corporate ownership of media and cross media ownership in Sierra Leone in Freetown, when he observed that “the media landscape should be free so that more investors could come to invest in the industry”.

Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) has welcomed the decision of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in a consensus resolution to create an international day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.

The day would be celebrated each year on November 2.

PEC President, Hedayat Abdel Nabi, noted that the resolution was a great step forward for all media workers who were living the trauma of acute danger in the field, a danger that was growing daily and changing in character.
