Njala University honours Kanja Sesay

Njala University has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree on Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Ibrahim Sesay, for his public service to Sierra Leone, which spans nearly three decades.

33% drop in teenage pregnancy in Sierra Leone - President Bio

President Julius Maada Bio says there has been a 33% drop in teenage pregnancy and a 37% increase in girl-child education in Sierra Leone since 2018.

The President gave the statistics whilst delivering a Public Lecture at his Alma Mater- American University’s School of Public Service in the United States on the 15th of September this year.

Bio thanked the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and his wife Madam Fatima Bio for their efforts in the reduction of teenage pregnancy in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leoneans prefer democracy – IGR report

The latest report by the Institute for Governance Reform (IGR) has indicated that 88% of respondents have indicated their preference for democracy as the preferred system of governance, which is the highest ratio in the whole West African region and almost 20% above the regional average.

Streetlights and clock tower for Pujehun town

The newly elected Council chairman has promised to build a clock tower at Gobaru Junction on the approach to Pujehun town and provide street lights for the township itself and surrounding communities.

Dismissed Police officer sent to high court over Kush

The case of a dismissed Police Officer William Sawyer accused of selling the drug ‘Kush’ has been committed to the High Court after  Magistrate Mark Ngeba presiding over the matter at Court No.1 in Freetown said  there was sufficient evidence for the accused’s trial.

Magistrate Ngegba arrived at this conclusion on Friday 15th September 2023, after a Police Detective Sub-Inspector A. Kamara, of Ross Road Police Station, testified in court at the Preliminary Investigation (PI).

More US$ 13 million for energy sector

The Ministry of Energy has in a press statement announced World Bank Grant of 13 Million United States dollars for the Electricity and Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

The grant according to the statement is an Additional Fund to the parent project which was approved in January 2021 and came into effect in March of the same year.
