Minister makes a case for Liberian refugees

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Sheka Tarawallie aka Shekito says it is the duty of the UN refugees agency, UNHCR, and the government of Sierra Leone to continue to engage Liberian refugees without judging them on the fact that the guns have gone silent in their country.

Addressing the committee meeting of UNHCR's high commissioner's programme in Geneva, Switzerland, Tarawallie urged the agency to continue handling refugee matters while the government would ensure a fair "individual refugee status determination process."

Executive Director of Health Alert, a local civil society organisation, says “politicians in the government of President Ernest Bai Koroma are responsible for the demise of operation WID”.

Victor Lansana Koroma told Politico that the operation to clear major Freetown streets of traders started off very well with them as a civil society partner responsible for monitoring the process and ensuring that the mandate of the operation was actualised.

Chairman of the Western District Synod of Buxton Memorial Methodist Church on Charles Street says “the nation is in stagnation because our thoughts are totally evil and there is no fear of the Lord in our leaders”.

Reverend Arnold Archer-Campbell, who preached on the theme “Serve the Lord with fear” at the 104th anniversary of Men Stewards Union of the church over the weekend, wondered “how can a nation have a vice president that cannot represent his president or the country.”
