2 killed by collapsing perimeter fence

A woman in her later 20s and her 18-month-old son died yesterday morning after a perimeter fence collapsed on their house situated at a place called “Down De Hole” at  36 Old Railway Line, Brookfields in Freetown.

According to Sahr Bendu, an eyewitness living in the same compound as the deceased, the bodies of Sallay Samura and her son Alhaji Koroma were removed under the rubble, adding that the son was alive but was later pronounced dead at the King Harman Road Hospital.

Magbass fraud case continues in court

A second prosecution witness yesterday testified in the alleged case of embezzlement involving a staff member of the Magbass Sugar Company in Magbass village, northern Sierra Leone.

The accused, Samuel Thomas Bangura, who is facing a two-count charge of embezzlement, made his second appearance in court two weeks after his first.

MPs order arrest of Makeni CA

Parliamentary committee on finance and development has called on police to arrest the Chief Administrator of Makeni City Council and force him to face their probe after he refused to show up four hours after the summon.

Ahaji Alhaji Bangura, who was supposed to face the oversight committee on finance and development to give account on finances disbursed by the central authorities to the council, was nowhere to be found.

Magistrate warns RUFP

Magistrate Komba Komanda of Court Number 2 has warned three members of the Revolutionary United Front Party standing trial in his court on allegations of house-breaking and larceny.

He said it was not welcoming to hear “RUF” being mentioned in any misunderstanding because the name “brings back bad memories” and advised the party not to do anything that would disturb the peace of the land as “we have suffered enough”.

Punjab Distilleries in hot waters

During their oversight work in Kenema, the Parliamentary Committee on Finance and Development discovered that the government Senior Trade Inspector in the district was “seriously undermining government efforts”.

The committee says that Kandeh Kanu poses as Acting Proprietor for Punjab Distilleries Factory, the producers of cheap alcoholic drinks which they say contradicts his work as a government official.
