Parliament commends NRA East

The parliamentary oversight committee on finance and development has commended the National Revenue Authority’s Regional Manager in the East, Michael Alimamy Kanu and his team for collecting Le 3.6 Billion last year and Le 2.2 Billion for the first half of 2013.

The Committee Chairman, Hassan sheriff, MP, said that regional tax office had done well in helping government to raise revenue, stressing that “all documents presented to the committee are in good order”.

US$ 300,000 for Constitutional Review

The UN development agency, UNDP, has given $300,000 to the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), out of a total of US$ 4.1 million needed for the process which opens next week.

A consultative meeting was held at the ministry of finance and economic development for donor pledges towards the process to prepare the budget for the launch and the eventually inauguration of the commission.

2 women fight over 12-year-old boy

In what looks like a replay of the classical biblical case of Sarah and Deborah, the police family support unit (FSU) in Kenema have started investigating a case involving two women both of whom are laying claim to a 12-year-old. The boy had been living in Daru town for more than eight years with a nurse, Amie Joseph.

An FSU source said the matter was initially reported to the Daru police station where preliminary investigations started but was subsequently referred to the FSU regional headquarters in Kenema.

Remand for alleged rapist of 4-year-old

A 20-year-old man (name withheld as part of Politico’s editorial policies), who allegedly raped a four-year old girl at Wellington has been remanded at the Pademba Road prisons by Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No.2 in Freetown.

The accused, who apparently lives in the same house as the victim, is being preliminarily investigated on a one-count charge of sexual penetration.

Murder suspect sent to High Court

An alleged case of murder, involving one Amara Vandi, has been committed to the High Court for hearings.

The particulars of offense were that on Thursday 13 March, 2013 at Dauda Town in the Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District one Alpha Vandi murdered a certain Umaru Barrie. Three witnesses were led in evidence by the prosecution.

In his ruling Magistrate Momoh Jah Stevens said the accused had a case to answer because there was sufficient evidence for the matter to be committed to High Court. The accused was refused bail.
