Connaught Management calls for a probe

The Management of Connaught Government Hospital has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the hospital and identify corruption risks in a bid to support the facility with recommendations and best practices that will eliminate those risks.

This call according to a report by the Public Relations Officer of the ACC, Sylvanus Blake was made by the hospital Management on the 6th of September 2023 during a meeting.

Kamarainmba’s health is not that good – says Prisons official

The Public Relations Manager at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Assistant Superintendent Leslie Cole-Showers has confirmed to Politico that Mohamed Kamaraimba Mansaray is sick but responding to treatment, and that his condition is stable.

The officer was reacting to social media posts in recent days claiming that Kamarainba, who is serving time at the Correctional Centre in Freetown for sexual penetration of a minor, has died.

Man remanded for laughing in court

Justice Adrian Fisher has remanded a 21-year-old accused, Tejan Dickson of 14 Taylor Street, Kissy in Freetown for laughing in court during proceedings.

Dickson, first accused in an ongoing case of seven counts of wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, malicious damage, and throwing of missiles, was standing in the dock together with other six accused at the Freetown High Court No.1 on Wednesday 6th September 2023, for assaulting and wounding the complainant Linda Macauley.

SLeCAA condemns illegal possession of arms

The Communication Officer of   Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition (SLeCAA) Jestina Manley has on behalf of the commission condemned the illegal possession of the weapons.

Manley was making clarifications in a radio interview on the 7th September, 2023 regarding the position of the commission. She said the commission does not sell guns, but rather issues out licenses to owners.

SCADeP boosts farmers with onion seeds and fertilizer

In order to ease the crisis surrounding onion in the country, the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP) has issued agricultural products like onion seeds and fertilizers to over 40 farmers in Makeni.

The Assistant Director of Crop Division at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Fatmata Margai, in a radio interview noted that the support is in line with the government’s efforts to address onion shortage and increase its production in the country.

Sierra Leone identifies 377 illegal gun manufactures

The Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition (SLeCAA) has in a press release dated 1st September this year confirmed that there are 377unlicensed local gun manufacturers and repairers as per survey conducted in 2020.

Of the total unlicensed gun manufacturers and repairers, 138 are local gun producers and 239 repairers, and according to the release, these illegal manufacturers of shotguns are a threat to the security of the country by contributing to the illegal ‘’proliferation’’ of small arms and ammunition.

FGM shrine demolished to make way for a school

Matimba is the first village in Sierra Leone to demolish their ‘Yanka’ or society bush where women earmarked for training into performing the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other traditional practices, according to the Executive Director of Amazonian Initiative Movement Rugiatu Neneh Turay.

Turay made this statement at a ceremony held to commission a formal education school at Matimba village which is located in Koya Chiefdom, Port Loko District.
