60 graduate in good parenting

After going through a six-week training session conducted by Focus 1000, some 60 parents from the Kroo Bay Community in Central Freetown have graduated on good parenting and are to serve as role models in their community.

The training’s title was: “Strengthening Community Engagement Approaches and Social Cohesion for Peaceful Elections and Reduction of Violence amongst Adolescents and Youths in Kono, PortLoko and Western Area Urban Districts’’.

Lands Ministry reviews plans

3 children perish in house fire in Sierra Leone

Three Children sleeping inside a house at Brigette Village, outside Waterloo in the Western Rural Area were reported to have died after fire engulfed the building in the afternoon of Tuesday 22nd August this year.

Nadiatu Bendu aged 3, Fatmata Turay 2, and Mohamed Turay 12, all perished.

According to the Media Officer and Spokesperson of the Waterloo Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alieu Jalloh, 6-year-old Philip Turay and his mother, Mabinty Turay suffered severe burns.

Sierra Leone dismisses policeman for “selling” Kush

Police Constable 5614 Sawyer Williams, alias Daddy, has been dismissed from the Force for selling a harmful drug commonly known as “Kush”, according to Police Regional Commander of Freetown-East, John Martin Senessie (Ph.D.).

 Addressing journalists at the weekly Police Press Briefing in Freetown on Wednesday 23rd August 2023, he said the ex-police constable who admitted to the crime is to face prosecution when investigations are concluded.

Women’s Groups condemn attack on Female MP

A Coalition of Women’s Organizations in Sierra Leone has in a press release condemned what they referred to as Dr. John Idriss Lahai’s gender insensitive remarks made over social media regarding the legislative representation of elected female Members of Parliament (MP).

They also condemned his “persistent cyber-bullying” on the First Lady Fatima Bio.

The Group issued the release on the 24th of August, 2023 after he made remarks on the 21st of August 2023 on his Facebook page.

FBC lecturer’s murder case to High Court

Magistrate Mark Ngegba in Freetown has concluded a preliminary investigation into the alleged murder of an FBC lecturer, Kabba Santigie Bangura, and committed the matter for trial in the High Court.

Before the magistrate delivered the ruling, Detective Sergeant Issa Kamara from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, tendered clothes, believed to belong to the deceased, found in the house of the accused who is a herbalist.
