Campaigners blame Sierra Rutile over deaths
A coalition of civil society organisations, Campaign for Just Mining has held the Sierra Rutile mining company responsible for the sea accident on Tuesday morning in Bonthe District in which six people died. The victims - three women and three children - drowned while they were crossing the Gangama Dredge to their farms.
Cholera still critical – UN says
The UN World Health Organisation and the UN children's fund, UNICEF say the situation of the cholera outbreak in Sierra Leone is “still critical”. They say as at 3 September 2012, 15,838 cases had been reported with 251 deaths, recording a fatality rate of 1.6%.

Cholera taking over Sierra Leone!

A spokesman for the UN World Health Organisation in Sierra Leone has told Politico that the cholera outbreak is moving thick and fast throughout the country with 12 of the country’s 13 districts affected. The latest figures as at 30 August stand at 245 deaths and 14,857 cases reported. Koinadugu in the north is the newest district to have been hit by the epidemic with Kailahun district in the east the only place without a known case.
