Revising Sierra Leone’s 2022 budget is necessary – Finance Minister

Finance Minister, Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura says that revising the 2022 Budget was necessary to stabilize the country’s economy

He made the statement at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education and held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in Freetown.

The President of the Fullah Union, Tabital Pulaaku International Sierra Leone Chapter, Alhaji Amadu Juldeh Sowe, has said they want to ensure especially female beneficiaries of their scholarship programme are in sectors such as accounting, engineering, and medicine.

He was addressing the student beneficiaries of scholarships offered by the union.

 Sowe said in Western countries most of the strategic sectors are dominated by women, whilst encouraging them to study hard so that they can become prominent people in the country.

MPs urge transport minister to facilitate railway travel

The Inspector-General of Police William Fayia Sellu told a press conference in Freetown on Tuesday that the Security Sector has been following leads that point toward people whose activities threatened the peace and security of the country, and for which arrests have been made.

He said the police have in their custody 8 middle-level officers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), ranging from Lieutenant to Major.

No arrests one year since varsity student deflowered, killed and buried in a shallow grave in gated compound

It is exactly a year to the rainy day of 9 August 2022 when the body of Namisa Fatmata Kamara was discovered in a shallow grave inside a fenced compound at Sumaila Town in Freetown, nine days after she had gone missing. There have been no arrests or charges, leading the family to accuse the police of neglect.

According to an autopsy report, referenced by her mother, the 22-year-old university student was deflowered and brutally killed, apparently inside the house, before she was buried.

Health minister assures of a diagnostic center for Sierra Leone

Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr Austin Demby says $7 million is secure, waiting to be pumped into the establishment of a state-of-the-art diagnostic center at Kerry Town, just outside Waterloo.

In an interview with Politico, he said that amount had been ring-fenced by the Government of Sierra Leone with work due to start in due course for the center, which will also include a cancer treatment center. It will cost a total of $21 million and the minister assured of goodwill to get the job done.
