5 in police net for theft of TRANSCO materials

Five persons are in police custody for an alleged theft of Electricity Distribution Supply Authority’s (EDSA) Cables and other items, which according to the Police Media officer in Kenema, Inspector Prince Bernard Jaygboi Kamara, were meant for TRANSCO West African Power Pool Project.

SLEWRC engages stakeholders on EDSA tariff increase

As the challenges to pay power producers heighten, the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) has engaged stakeholders in a day’s public hearing for the proposed increase in the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) tariff from 11 to 12 US cents.

The public hearing was held at the Freetown City Council Hall on Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown   on the 21st September, 2023.

TVET members discuss skills, employment in Banjul

Stakeholders from Member States of ECOWAS have met in Banjul in the Gambia where discussions centred on validating a Draft Action Plan on strategies to improve skills and employability to respond to current and future challenges in the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

The meeting from 19th to 21st September 2023 brought together representatives of member states, development partners and experts in the field of TVET.

UN Rep in Sierra Leone urges ruling & main opposition parties to end deadlock

As the Commonwealth leads mediation efforts to end the political impasse between the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), the UN Resident Co-ordinator, Babatunde A.Ahonsi  has urged the two parties to approach the process with genuine and honest commitment.

He was speaking at an event at the Bintumani Conference Hall in Freetown to observe International Day of Peace, on Thursday 21st September.

Sierra Leone’s First Lady appointed UNAIDS Champion

Sierra Leone’s First Lady Dr. Fatima Bio has been appointed United Nations AIDS Champion.

The appointment took place in New York on the 19th September 2023 during the joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.

“This is to certify that Her Excellency Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone is appointed as a UNAIDS Champion for the empowerment and engagement of adolescent girls and young women”, the appointment document reads.
