Two freed on rape charges

Paul Daniel Koroma, a pastor, and Abubakarr Gbla have both been set free of sexual penetration charges in two separate cases at High No.6 in Freetown.

Before reading the verdict related to Koroma on the 8th of September 2023, Justice Cosmotina Jarret told the court that there were inconsistencies among prosecution witnesses one, two, three, and four, whilst also pointing out that the witnesses were all unavailable.

Thus, she said, “I have doubts as a judge as to whether the accused did the act.”

1,044 children receive physiotherapy

The Programme Director at World Hope International Anna Vines has confirmed that there are 1,044 (one thousand and forty-four) children benefitting from physiotherapy services across the country.

She made the disclosure during an interview with Politico, as she explained the significance of joining the world over to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day on the 8th of September 2023.

Witness says gun went off in scuffle in Hastings murder case

Defence Witness Two (DW2) John Patrick Bangura in the on-going Hastings murder trial involving an accused police officer, Foday Alimamy Yillah over the killing of Alpha Kargbo, has testified in court that the deceased had a scuffle with the accused which saw bullets discharged from the gun.

Sierra Leone opposition says ready for dialogue with Government

 National Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Sidi Yaya Tunis, they are ready to participate in dialogue to be brokered by International partners.

He told Politico in an interview on Wednesday that they have made their dialogue commitment to the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC). He said that they have also got authorization from the party’s National Advisory Committee (NAC)   and National Executive Committee to proceed with the process.

School bars disabled child in northern Sierra Leone

An 8-year-old orphan, disabled after surgery, has been stopped from going to school in the village of Makiteh Koya Chiefdom due to his depressing health condition.

The boy whose identity we cannot reveal for sensitivity reasons crawls on his waist and can hardly control nature’s call, which reportedly forced the school authorities to stop him from attending classes.

Sierra Leone Teachers' Union demands replacement of 680 retired teachers

In an engagement with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), the Sierra Leone Teachers’ Union (SLTU) has demanded that 680 retired school teachers should be replaced.

This demand by SLTU was put forward to MBSSE during a meeting in Freetown.

Speaking to Politico, the SLTU Regional Secretary for Western Region, Foday Kuyateh said the meeting was geared towards the development of education prior to the reopening of schools.

Connaught Management calls for a probe

The Management of Connaught Government Hospital has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the hospital and identify corruption risks in a bid to support the facility with recommendations and best practices that will eliminate those risks.

This call according to a report by the Public Relations Officer of the ACC, Sylvanus Blake was made by the hospital Management on the 6th of September 2023 during a meeting.
