In defence of press freedom African Journalists form Lawyers network

A one-day Consultative Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya involving African Journalists has ended with the formation of a Lawyers’ Network that will defend the numerous cases journalists across the continent face in the line of duty.

The Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) at the workshop on 30th August deliberated with a focus on the theme of the event:” Defending Journalists and Media Workers' Rights by Seeking Redress through the Courts”.

A police recorded statement of  fourth accused, 23-year-old David Fortune alias Stone of 16 Water Lane Allentown, in an ongoing murder trial at a High Court in Freetown, has indicated that the accused admitted to killing Mohamed Umar Karmoh Kamara at Adams Street in Freetown.

Kailahun-Buedu road construction underway

The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), has awarded the contract to Consulting Engineers Group (CEG) Limited for the Design Review and Construction Supervision for the Upgrading of the Kailahun-Buedu Road.

The contract between SLRA and CEG was signed by the Authority’s Director General, Engineer Amara Jambai Kanneh, and Director Bernard Obika at the China Henan International Corporation Co. Ltd (CHICO) campsite in Gbalahun village, Kailahun District on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

10-year jail for baby killer

A 22-year-old convict Kaidatu Conteh has confessed at a High Court in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone that she put caustic soda onto the food of her one-year and six-month-old baby, who eventually died.

Ms. Conteh, according to a report by the communication unit of the judiciary of Sierra Leone told the Court before Justice Abubakarr Sannoh on Saturday 2nd September 2023 that she resorted to committing the act because she was under pressure from her family members.

Resident Minister calls for unity

The Resident Minister East Gbessay Jusu Chuckie Ngobeh has called on the people of Kenema District to be united and not undermine indigenes from the district who have been appointed to hold positions in governance.  

He made this appeal on the 19th of August 2023 at a gathering held to appreciate President Julius Maada Bio for appointing persons from the district, including the appointment of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Moriba S. Koroma.
