US ambassador breached Vienna Convention - APPA

All Political Parties Association (APPA) has in a press statement accused outgoing United States Ambassador David Reimer of breaching the Vienna Convention.

The statement dated 24th August 2023 says “APPA-SL takes note of the statement made by the outgoing US Ambassador as a total breached of the Vienna convention and wish to state that such statement undermined the respect of diplomatic principles covering each and every diplomat in a nation state”.

In Sierra Leone “Stunted growth in children drops by 26%” - Chief Nutritionist

The Chief Nutritionist who is also Director of Food and Nutrition at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Aminata Shamit Koroma says there’s been a 26% decrease in the number of children with stunted growth in the country since 2021.

Koroma made the disclosure in an interview with Politico on the 23rd of August 2023. 

On the impaired growth and development of children manifested by low height in contrast to age, she stated that between 2010- 2021, the number was 33.1%.

Woman pours acid on partner’s face

A pregnant woman, Fatima Mansaray of Koko Street in Kabala was said to have poured liquid suspected to be acid on the face of her partner, Adam Saccoh.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday 25th August 2023 in Kabala.

According to Detective Police Constable (D/P.C) Christiana Fambulleh of the Family Support Unit (FSU) Kabala Division who is leading the investigation, the couple got into an argument after the man returned home from an unexplained destination late into the night.

Politico hosts media training today

In an effort to promote health and environmental journalism in Sierra Leone, Free Media Group, Publishers of Politico Newspaper as the recipient of Internews’ media grant under STOP Spillover project has today commenced an extensive three-day training of journalists across the country.

The training which brings together 50 students and professional journalists from across print, electronic and Journalism Schools in Freetown focuses on Zoonotic diseases with support from Internews’ Stop Spillover project.

Alleged vehicle fraud dealer in court

A 30-year-old accused, Ibrahim Kargbo of 18 Bangura Street in Waterloo, has appeared at a Freetown Magistrate court on allegation of fraudulently obtaining 94 million Old Leones, on the pretext of him having a vehicle for sale.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Ross Road Court No.1 on Friday 25th August 2023.

Police to enforce helmet use by bikers

Police in Kenema are set to ensure commercial bike riders and pillions use crash helmets starting September 1st ,2023.

The Divisional Operations Officer, Kenema Police Division (DO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ibrahim Dikisu Kamara in an interview with Politico on the 26th August, 2023 said the enforcement is in line with a Memo from the Ministry of Internal Affairs Ministry. He said it is not going to be business as usual when people will flout public road safety regulations.

60 graduate in good parenting

After going through a six-week training session conducted by Focus 1000, some 60 parents from the Kroo Bay Community in Central Freetown have graduated on good parenting and are to serve as role models in their community.

The training’s title was: “Strengthening Community Engagement Approaches and Social Cohesion for Peaceful Elections and Reduction of Violence amongst Adolescents and Youths in Kono, PortLoko and Western Area Urban Districts’’.
