Calls for Sierra Leone’s reelected president to work with opposition

Sierra Leonean Pilgrims have urged President Julius Maada Bio to work in tandem with the opposition in a bid to develop the country and promote peace, whiles congratulating him on his re-election.

The Pilgrims asked that the leaders set aside their differences and work towards developing Sierra Leone.

One of the Pilgrims Haja Zainab Barrie Lappia called on the President to govern the country as a father by embracing those from the political divide.

Court dismisses opposition’s case in Sierra Leone

Justice Adrian Fisher has dismissed a case filed by the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in which they asked the court to order the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) to provide the National Register of Voters to all political parties.

On Wednesday 5th July 2023, the judge ordered the first and second applicants, APC and its National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya to jointly pay two thousand New Leones (NLe 2, 000) to the defendants.  

Sierra Leone’s president terminates services of senior officials

 Eight Presidential Advisers and the Chairman of the Office of Presidential Infrastructure Initiative, Dr. John E. Tambi  have had their services terminated.

A letter from the Secretary to President Julius Maada Bio, addressed to the Accountant- General at the Ministry of Finance dated Wednesday 5th July 2023, with notification for updating of the payroll, highlighted the names of those affected.

Diasporan questions NEW’s PVT

Due to the ongoing contentious issue regarding the parallel announcement of the Presidential election results by the National Elections Watch (NEW), Dr. Adams B. Steven a Sierra Leonean based in the United States of America  has questioned NEWs Parallel Voting Tabulation (PVT) system it reportedly used in its projection of the results.

He expressed his concerns at the Ministry of Information and Communications weekly press briefing held at Youyi Building on the 6th of July 2023.
